When RFD was launched in 1994 its focus was working solely through the medium of radio, collaborating with broadcasters in East and Southern Africa on educational programmes. Since then the organisation has grown considerably, now employing 15 staff, a wide network of freelancers and consultants, and empowering isolated communities through media all over the world. In 2006, MFD was founded, reflecting the increasingly multi-media environment that we work within.
MFD believes that the media can be used as an effective and powerful tool for reaching, engaging, and empowering communities isolated by geography, poverty, conflict, or illiteracy. We are a flexible and highly entrepreneurial organisation, constantly seeking out solutions to the multitude of communication challenges that individuals and communities face. Through collaboration with suitable project partners, we are able to produce relevant, culturally appropriate materials and solutions for people and organisations worldwide, spanning the voluntary, public, and private sectors.
